Herringbone LVT installation - Sherburn, Leeds

Commercial Quality Herringbone LVT Flooring for a New Build

New Build Flooring

We recently installed a herringbone LVT floor in a new build home in Sherburn, near Leeds. The client wanted a high quality, durable floor that would complement their new kitchen units and give a premium, high end finish.

The herringbone installation was part of our wider works in the property where we also supplied and installed new carpets to the Bedrooms, Living room and Stairway.

Customer Requirements

Our customer contacted us to arrange for LVT flooring and carpets supplying and fitting to their new build house, which they had not yet got a completion date for...

This meant we had to

  • be flexible around the completion date which might potentially change with less than a few days notice, whilst still aiming to get the client in to their new property on the same day of completion

  • be able to devise a plan to get the flooring to site to acclimatise properly

  • coordinate with the site managers and property sales team to arrange a site visit - prior to the customer completing on their property purchase

  • Give an estimate of cost based on the property floor plan

all whilst delivering what our customer originally wanted - a floor that would look stylish, complement the rest of the decor and last well.

Project Challenges

One of the main challenges was the timing of the installation. The LVT flooring could not be installed until the property sale had completed, meaning the work needed to be carefully planned around the client's moving day.

We arranged to install the bedroom carpets first, whilst preparing the downstairs area for the MVS  screeding ready for the new LVT flooring at the same time. This allowed the client to begin moving into their new home as soon as the screed downstairs was dry enough to walk on.

Prior to move in day and before installation, we arranged with the developers for us to carry out a site visit which allowed us to confirm the room measurements and complete a moisture testing.

At this stage we also discovered that the subfloor had not fully dried yet, some residual construction moisture remained, leaving the moisture level still above 75% RH. This was not a problem and finding out before the client had completed on their property purchase, meant we could advise the client before starting the project that a suitable moisture vapour suppression system would also be required prior to laying the LVT flooring.

Subfloor Preparation

The subfloor was mechanically ground to remove surface laitance and construction debris before the Kerakoll Proflow MVS system was installed. We chose Kerakoll MVS screed as it provides a fast system and is from a brand we have used for many years and have found to be reliable. This provided the required moisture control and helped create a smooth, suitable surface for the new flooring.

Installing the Herringbone LVT Flooring

The Fusionline Honey Rich Oak LVT was installed in a traditional herringbone pattern using UZIN KE 66 high-temperature adhesive.

The adhesive was selected because of the property's French patio doors and the potential for increased temperatures and temperature fluctuations caused by direct sunlight through them.

Once installed, the flooring was rolled in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements. The installation was completed with upgraded special-order door plates and carefully finished before the floor was cleaned and inspected.

The Finished Result

The warm oak tones of the herringbone LVT flooring complemented the client's kitchen beautifully, creating a premium and contemporary finish throughout the main living area.

The combination of careful subfloor preparation, high-quality flooring materials and detailed installation has created a durable floor that looks fantastic and is designed to last for many years.
